After Care Instructions
After you root canal treatment has been completed postoperative instructions will be given verbally and written.
Afterwards, you will return to your dentist, who will place a crown or other permanent restoration on the tooth to protect and restore it to full function.
After the permanent restoration placement, the tooth continues to function like any other tooth.
It is normal to experience some soreness or tenderness for a few days following your root canal treatment. Your jaw may also be sore from having held it wide open for a long time during the treatment. These symptoms will subside over the days following treatment but over the counter medication should be used as necessary; this is normally sufficient to alleviate the pain If you experience severe pain or pressure that lasts more than the initial days, please contact us Immediately after your treatment when your mouth is still numb, do not eat. This is really a precaution against accidently biting your tongue or cheek Do not chew or bite on the treated tooth until it is completely restored. Brush and floss as normal If you have a temporary filling – some parts may wear away, this is normal – but if you think that the complete filling has come away, please contact us
Please contact our office if you develop any of the following symptoms:
o A swelling inside or outside your mouth
o An allergic reaction to any medication – like itching or a rash
o A return of your original symptoms
o If your bite feels uneven
